With the Bay Area focused on the Golden State Warriors
playoff game versus the San Antonio Spurs, the San Francisco Giants, out of the
spotlight, squared off against the Phillies. The sold out AT&T Park crowd
was excited to see Giants star Madison Bumgarner, as he matched up with
Phillies ace, Cliff Lee. However, the fans went home disappointed, as he
Phillies ended the Giants six game win streak, with a 6-2 victory.
Lee came
into Monday night with a twenty-inning scoreless streak in San Francisco, and
his great pitching continued. That streak ended in the 2nd inning
tonight as Hunter Pence went deep for the sixth time this season. The only other
run the Giants could muster was off of a Francisco Peguero infield single,
which scored Pence.
The
Phillies offense was operating on all cylinders tonight, as they were able to
get production from a whole host of different players. Michael Young doubled to
right with the bases loaded, scoring John Mayberry Jr. and Erik Kratz. It was
evident that Bumgarner didn’t have his good stuff tonight when he threw a wild
pitch scoring Chase Utley. The Phillies offense would score three more runs to
help make their bullpen feel comfortable closing out the game.
Madison
Bumgarner, tonight, was not able to give the Giants what they have come to
expect and enjoy over his last six starts. He pitched six innings and gave up
five earned runs on eight hits. His ERA is now up to 2.31, which is among the
NL Leaders, but this was a start the Giants really were counting on winning in
this series.
Tomorrow
night’s game will be at 7:15 between Tim Lincecum and Kyle Kendrick, as the
Giants look to start a new win streak.
