Matt Cain is finally a winning pitcher as
he tossed 7 1/3 innings, while scattering five hits and giving up only one
run. This ended a two week drought of
starting pitchers being credited with the win as the Giants got out to an early
lead, and held it throughout the game.
Hunter
Pence drove in all four runs and provided two doubles, while lead off man,
Andres Torres (batting in place for the injured Angel Pagan, who is listed as
questionable for the upcoming series with the Phillies) added three hits and
Marco Scutaro added two hits and scored twice.
Pence's second double in 5th inning knocked in Pablo Sandoval and Buster
Posey. The Giants were already up 2 – 0
and needed that insurance as the Dodgers stormed back with 3 runs in the 8th
off of Giants reliever, Jeremy Affeldt.
Affeldt did his job by getting two ground balls, but Adrian Gonzalez
knocked in two with a single up the middle, and the speedy Dee Gordon beat out
a high chopper that fell in between Scutaro and Affeldt.
Korean
sensation, Hyun-Jin Ryu had support tonight, but it was from the Korean
American fans holding South Korean flags and signs in his native language, and
not from the Dodger's lineup. The
expensive Dodger lineup could only muster 5 hits against the Giant's ace and
never threatened while Hyun-Jin was in the game. This was the second time that the Giants were
able to beat him this season.
The
Giants complete the sweep of the Dodgers, and improve to 19 – 12 in the young
season and are sitting on top of the NL West.
They have won six straight and host the Phillies Monday, Tuesday and
Wednesday. Tomorrow's game will likely
be a pitcher's duel between Madison
Bumgarner and Cliff Lee. First pitch is
at 7:15.
