As the Giants have done so well
this season, they came back to win a game for the eleventh time this year and
the fifth game in a row. With the score tied in the bottom of the 10th
inning, Guillermo Quiroz stepped up to the plate and ripped a ball deep to left
field to beat the Dodgers.
A quick start was just what the
doctor ordered for struggling San Francisco starter Ryan Vogelsong, who came
into the game with a 6.23 ERA. The Giants
jumped out to 5-0 lead over the Dodgers early in the second inning, and rookie
pitcher Matt Magill did not look ready for the big leagues. The heart of the
lineup for the Giants was unstoppable early, with Sandoval and Posey driving in
runs left and right.
With the Giants cruising into the 5th
inning with a 6-1 advantage, the Dodgers put together their biggest inning of
the year, scoring a total of seven runs. Just when it looked as if Vogelsong
was back to his form from last years postseason, he gave up hit after hit and
was pulled after 4.2 innings pitched and allowing seven earned runs.
The Dodgers had all the momentum on
their side after a big 5th inning, the Giants scrapped and clawed
their way back with an Andres Torres homerun and a run-scoring wild pitch. In
the bottom of the 9th inning, Buster Posey came up to the plate with
the bases loaded and one out, but he grounded into an inning ending double
play. Quiroz came up huge in the 10th, and everyone in AT&T went
home happy for the second straight night.
It seems as
if the torture is back in the Bay after the last couple of game. This is the
Giants fifth consecutive win after their five game skid, and their fifth
victory in a row over the Dodgers. The Giants go for a sweep of the Dodgers
tomorrow night with Matt Cain on the mound. Cain is squaring off with Dodger rookie,
and Korean sensation, Hyun-jin Ryu. First pitch will be at 5:05.
