The surging
San Francisco Giants flew up north to square off with Melky Cabrera and the
struggling Toronto Blue Jays.
The Blue
Jays started strong with an early rally, and it turned out to be too much for
the Giants to overcome, as they fell 10-6 to last place Toronto.
Coming into
Tuesday night’s game, Barry Zito had a 0.55 ERA at home and a 14.21 ERA on the
road. His first inning was a disaster, as he gave up six runs. Zito did not
receive much help from his defense as they had two errors on the day.
In the
first inning, Zito gave up RBI singles to Edwin Encarnacion, Mark DeRosa, Colby
Rasmus, Emilio Bonifacio, and Melky Cabrera.
The Jays
were hitting the ball all over the field in the first inning, which gave R.A.
Dickey some cushion to perform well. He pitched six innings and gave up only
two earned runs.
In the
second inning Nick Noonan singled to right to score Hunter Pence. Brandon Belt
homered in the fourth inning, showing Giants Manager Bruce Bochy that he is
ready to perform all season long.
Toronto
exploded for three more runs in the sixth inning and added their tenth of the
game in the seventh on a Melky Cabrera double.
Belt
doubled to left in the eighth inning to score Hunter Pence again. In the ninth,
the Giants made their last run at a comeback when Pablo Sandoval hit a three
run shot.
When asked
about the game, Bochy said, “We made a lot of mistakes today.”
Melky
Cabrera put on a show today at the hands of his former team, maybe he wanted to
prove last year was not a fluke, or he was just elated when he received his
2012 World Series ring.
The Giants
will try to stop Melky and the Blue Jays from completing the two game sweep.
Tomorrow, Ryan
Vogelsong matches up with Ramon Ortiz, who is taking the place of the injured
Brandon Marrow. First pitch is at 4:07.
